Proud to support our local cycling community
Adam has been an avid cyclist his entire life (and I’m so sad that I’m not allowed to post pictures, because aero helmets are, let’s face it - really funny) Bikes aren’t just decorations for us. It’s not a cute theme for the cafe. We’re happy to fill your water bottles, our restrooms are open. We know how $%#*ing hard you’re working out there. It’s real to us.
We are business members of the Blue Ridge Bicycle club and the Downtown Asheville Racing Club. During season, Adam is often out on Saturday’s Bakery ride.
We are sponsors of the Hot Doggett and the Asheville Gran Fondo
We’ve been to Bike Fest and support the work of Asheville on Bikes. We’ve had conversations with the DoT about area roads. We’ve spent more than a few mornings outside the cafe, ringing a cowbell and cheering like loons for all the riders passing our small establishment.
ARE you ebike curious?
There are a lot of good reasons to be interested in them.
Ebikes are a fun way to get started with cycling. It’s a tough area here - it’s not flat, no one needs to tell you that. Maybe you’re looking to extend your time in a sport you love (do see the top article mentioned on your right. There are former pros who are using ebikes to stay cycling, or to return to cycling after illness/injury) It’s a realistic way to explore bike commuting (they come with cargo options!) It’s a quiet way to get out in the woods - without any of the noise or trail destruction of an atv.
Whatever your reason. Scratch that itch. Come see us.
https://www.cyclingweekly.com/features/how-much-exercise-do-you-get-on-an-e-bike Great (short), non-hyped article on how to get the best cardiovascular workout from an ebike, including stories of former pros (including a former yellow jersey wearer) who returned to cycling thanks to the benefits of an ebike.
https://electrek.co/2019/08/11/electric-bike-riders-more-exercise-than-cyclists/ If you go back to the source data, the title is misleading (wrong). but Ebikes are a great way to get more people cycling, and cycling more often and further than they would normally. And here is the truly great part - cycling at a cardiovascular load that is 94% of the average heart rate of conventional biking, but at much less perceived effort. much less. And biking does make you happier, healthier and less likely to use your car.
https://www.peopleforbikes.org/statistics/electric-bikes everything mentioned above can be found here. There are a lot of scholarly articles for people who want to dive deep. or avoid work (slowly raises hand).
